Perry ? Perry-Lecompton did OK in two phases, but the third – special teams – proved the Kaws’ undoing in a season-ending, 25-20 loss to Atchison on Thursday.

Perry-Lecompton had two snaps sail over the punter’s head – one led to a direct touchdown, the other an indirect TD – and allowed a long kickoff-return touchdown in its season-ending loss.

“It’s a tough loss,” P-L coach Mike Paramore said. “The kids played their tail ends off, but a couple of mistakes hurt us. We gave ’em three special-teams gifts, and that hurt us.”

Perry-Lecompton finished its season 6-3 overall, 1-2 in district.

Tonganoxie – Call it the Jeff Hughes show.

Behind the Tonganoxie quarterback’s 12 rushes for 243 yards and three touchdowns, the Chieftains routed Jefferson West.

With the victory, Tonganoxie (8-1), secured a 4A state playoff berth. The Chieftains on Tuesday will visit the winner of the Holton-Clay Center game.
