Perry falters in finale

October 27, 2006

— Perry-Lecompton did OK in two phases, but the third - special teams - proved the Kaws' undoing in a season-ending, 25-20 loss to Atchison on Thursday.

Perry-Lecompton had two snaps sail over the punter's head - one led to a direct touchdown, the other an indirect TD - and allowed a long kickoff-return touchdown in its season-ending loss.

"It's a tough loss," P-L coach Mike Paramore said. "The kids played their tail ends off, but a couple of mistakes hurt us. We gave 'em three special-teams gifts, and that hurt us."

Did Perry falter? No way. Our boys came out tough and played tough, as did Atchison. Both teams deserve praise and respect for the playing that they did. As a parent of a senior returning starter, I'm proud of this team. They faced comparison to last year's team all year and showed that it wasn't just the seniors last year that made a winning team, it was everyone. They had a great season and all of the fans are proud of our Perry-Lecompton Kaws!
