Kansas Gas Service settles rate case

Kansas Gas Service, which provides natural gas service to some customers in the Lawrence area, said Thursday that it had settled with the staff of the Kansas Corporation Commission to allow the utility to charge customers for another $52 million. The total is down from the $73.3 million sought by the company earlier this year. The settlement would boost the average residential customer’s bill by $5.83 per month; in May, the company had sought an average increase of $7.65.

The settlement is subject to approval by the three-member commission.
