Former Kansas principal pleads no contest

A Kansas school principal suspected of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy near Lincoln in 1995 pleaded no contest Tuesday.

Scott Habegger, 33, of Olathe, Kan., was a student teacher at Norris Elementary School at the time of the assault.

Habegger was accused of sexually assaulting the boy, whom he had befriended, about 30 times between April and August 1995 in Lincoln and on trips the two attended together. The victim, now 21 years old, reported the assault in January to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

Habegger will be sentenced Jan. 10.

After he was arrested, he was placed on administrative leave at Prairie Center Elementary School, the Olathe grade school where he was principal.
