What he did: Ruder, a senior defensive tackle, kept the public-address announcer busy Friday night at Haskell Stadium. He contributed a team-high 11 tackles, including one for a loss, as the Firebirds beat city rival Lawrence High, 49-15, and improved to 8-0.

What she did: Renfro, a senior outside hitter, had just four kills during Saturday’s Class 6A regional sub-state tournament. However, she had a flair for the dramatic, delivering the final points in the first and third games as LHS beat Free State to earn a berth in the 6A state tourney.
