Lecompton man charged in car chase

A 21-year-old Lecompton man has been charged with aggravated battery in connection with a vehicle chase Sunday in Lecompton that ended in a collision.

Casey Ray Pollard, 21, Lecompton, was formally charged Monday in District Court.

Exactly what happened in the incident remained somewhat unclear Monday. Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Kari Wempe said deputies still were conducting interviews.

According to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report, Pollard called police on Sunday to report what he thought were trespassers in a vehicle. The report says he followed the people – later identified as two males from Perry who are acquaintances of Pollard’s – and that eventually there was a collision between the two vehicles at Third and Isacks streets in Lecompton.

Pollard is charged with battering the two men who were in the other vehicle during the collision.

After the collision, a fourth male – who hadn’t been involved in the pursuit – fired a gunshot, according to the sheriff’s office. That person was not arrested.

All four appear to know one another, Wempe said.
