Free public clinics giving flu shots

Health professionals administered about 540 flu shots Saturday during the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department’s first public clinic of the season at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Sheryl Tirol Goodwin, a health department spokeswoman, said turnout was comparable to the first clinic one year ago.

National and area health experts have predicted an ample supply of the shots for this season and have encouraged anyone to get a shot. The health department will offer more public clinics this week, including 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at Eudora City Hall, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Baldwin Senior Center, and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Building 21 at the fairgrounds in Lawrence.
