Charting the stars

Local astrologer forecasts fate of famous couples

The stars can tell a lot about the stars.

That’s the premise of a new blog by Lawrence astrologer Krista Goering. She’s using a pair of astrological systems, along with her knowledge of psychology, to examine the relationships of celebrities.

Take, for instance, the six-year-long marriage of actors Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones.

Their secret? Goering says it’s because they were born on the same day – Sept. 25 – exactly 25 years apart.

“It depends on the specific birthday,” Goering says. “When two people meet with the same birthday, they notice things in each other and say, ‘That’s creepy. He’s just like me.’ Or they might see something that’s really irritating, and it’s because they’re so similar to one another.”

Goering, a real estate investor who has lived in Lawrence eight years, recently launched the celebrity astrological site at www.relationships-that-work.com/blog.

She bases her observations on traditional astrological signs, which are based on birthdays, and another system she calls the “subtle energy blueprint.” That system uses playing cards to represent birthdays, and the arrangement of the cards on a chart determines how people interact.

She pairs both of those methods with knowledge of psychology she’s picked up in books to make her celebrity-relationship determinations.

Goering, who declined to give her age but appears to be in her 50s, says she’s been doing astrological readings for 12 years. She also does readings professionally.

“It’s more than a hobby with me,” she says. “I find it fascinating. People really wonder why relationships don’t work out when they don’t work. It might be as simple as you’re an Aquarius and he’s a Scorpio, and that rarely works. Sometimes people aren’t that marriageable.”

That apparently was the case of actors Orlando Bloom and Kate Bosworth, the subject of Goering’s most recent blogging entry. The couple has had an on-again, off-again relationship that apparently now is off again.

Bloom was born Jan. 13, which means he tends to be accident-prone and intensely driven, Goering says. Bosworth was born Jan. 2, which means she’s aloof and unapproachable.

The result, Goering says, is they had a passionate but complicated relationship.

“When they’re not making love, they’re either competing against each other or fighting,” Goering writes. “They are wildly attracted to each other, but not really compatible. Although Orlando is very generous with Kate and is turned on by her, they have a stormy relationship because Kate believes Orlando is trying to control her and she resents that.”

Goering also examined the relationship of Matt Lauer and new “Today” show co-host Meredith Vieira. Because they share the same birthday – Dec. 30 – they will be compatible.

Their assistants also share the same birthday, Sept. 26.

Anyone born that day “typically has a martyr complex and is willing to make sacrifices for others,” Goering writes. “She is diligent and dedicated to the task at hand. She does not seek publicity or the spotlight and is modest and unassuming.”

Goering says most of her clients have been impressed by how accurate the stars can predict relationships. At the same time, though, her site includes a disclaimer saying, “While I am a Master Reader of Relationships, and I provide information that I believe would be of interest to a large audience, I do not insure the accuratenesss of any content on our Web site.”

Still, she thinks the site could become popular among the gossip-hungry masses.

“People are curious about people,” she says. “(Celebrities’) lives are just larger than life. We have interesting lives ourselves, but we look to celebrities for even more interesting lives.”
