Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 20, 1906: “Quarantines have been raised on 21 more houses and we are getting closer to having schools resumed after the diphtheria onslaught. So far, the total number of cases is right at 100 and there have been eight deaths. But doctors say things look brighter and that the worst is over. . . . Only five days to make sure you are registered properly to vote. . . . The KU freshmen beat Lawrence High in football yesterday but the plucky high school boys held the score to 16-0.”
