Danforth Chapel at Kansas University has reopened, following damage suffered in last spring's microburst.
The university announced the opening Friday morning, saying the badly damaged roof was repaired thanks to a $25,000 gift from Robert H. Malott of Wilmette, Ill.; $3,900 from the Historic Mount Oread Fund; and $15,400 from other KU friends and alumni.
The March 12 microburst caused $6 million of damage to KU buildings. But the damage to Danforth, a popular spot for weddings and social occasions, forced many couples to make new plans for their big day.
In August, Becky Dunavin, senior administrative assistant with KU's Student Involvement and Leadership Center, said the calls had been nonstop with inquiries into the chapel's condition and availability.
"We get at least one call a day," Dunavin said. "It's been a real headache for everybody."

How can one call a day be “nonstop” and a “real headache”?
How stressful can it be to have one call a day?

It's a headache when you have to tell at least one person per day that the chapel is not available. The headache then belongs to the happy couple, who now have to find someplace else to wed when they probably had their hearts set on that quaint, intimate little chapel.
No more headaches now, hopefully.

It was just a little roof damage. I do not understand why: A) It took 8 months to fix it, and B) Why weddings couldn't go on inside while it was being fixed. With as long as they had it closed, one might think the whole thing was razed to the ground and had to be entirely rebuilt!

My husband and I originally planned to have our wedding in Danforth at the beginning of August and had to find an alternate location. KU wouldn't refund our money even though the chapel wasn't ready yet because we didn't cancel our reservation at least one month in advance. I don't understand the point in cancelling a reservation when the place is closed! I'm still disgusted with KU for keeping our money.
On a side note, we had our wedding at the chapel on the Baker University campus in Baldwin, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. The staff was always helpful and polite. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful place to tie the knot!
