No apology

To the editor:

It is not surprising that Kansas Board of Education chairman Steve Abrams doesn’t seem to understand the point made by the governor about how their recent anti-evolution decisions and the hiring of Mr. Corkins brings shame on the state much the way the Phelps clan does with their vitriolic antics. It is not surprising that he adheres to such policies for it clearly illustrates how unevolved he is. Ironically, it seems to makes sense.

When I travel out of the state or talk long distance and tell folks where I live, it almost invariably brings forth some snickers or derogatory retorts about how backwards a place it must be to live. More and more it begins to feel true to me, but in my mind I know differently, and it becomes tiring to frequently find myself defending Kansas to outsiders because of the impact the words and actions of Abrams and his ilk and the Phelpses have on Kansas.

So you go, Gov. Sebelius. No apology necessary.
