Kansas men’s golf in sixth-place tie

? Kansas University’s men’s golf team was tied for sixth after the first round of the Prestige at PGAWest.

KU had a first-day, 36-hole score of 301-294-595 on Monday on the par-72, 7,156-yard Greg Norman Course.

KU’s Gary Woodland fired rounds of 69 and 72 to finish the day tied for fourth. Woodland is attempting to finish in the top 10 for the fourth time in four tries this fall.

Senior Tyler Docking came on strong in the second round of play, shooting a three-under 69 to go along with his first-round score of 75 and is currently tied for 10th place.

“I thought Gary and Tyler played well, and the others didn’t do quite as well,” coach Ross Randall said. “We made a lot of birdies, but we need to limit our big numbers if we are going to finish in the top five tomorrow. It is a tough course with lots of water hazards, and it is a definite adjustment for us to play desert-style golf. The field is very strong, and for Gary to have a chance to win the tournament is very impressive for him.”

Co-host Stanford is tied for the team lead with UCLA with 570 strokes.

Other KU scores: Zach Pederson, tied for 52nd, 79-75-154; Bobby Knowles, tied for 65th, 79-78-157; Barrett Martens, tied for 70th, 78-81-159.
