Haskell crowns homecoming queen

Melinda Adams was crowned Saturday as the Haskell Indian Nations University homecoming queen.

Adams, a San Carlos Apache tribe member, won the honor after voting, a speech and an interview on her knowledge of Haskell history.

“I’ve been going to school here for four years,” Adams said, “so I know a lot about the history.”

Adams was selected from a field of nine students.

The environmental science major was nominated for the honor by her American Indian Science and Engineering Club, she said.

She also is a four-year starter on the university’s women’s basketball team.
