Third suspect in stabbing arrested Friday

A third Lawrence man has been arrested in connection with an early Friday morning brawl where at least two people were stabbed outside Liquid, 804 W. 24th St.

According to jail records, police arrested a 24-year-old Lawrence man Friday night on a charge of aggravated battery. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Lt. Kari Wempe, a Douglas County Sheriff spokeswoman, said Saturday the two Lawrence men arrested Friday remained in the Douglas County Jail. The 22-year-old man was being held in lieu of $75,000 bond, and bond for the 19-year-old man was $50,000, she said.

Information was unavailable Saturday from the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office about whether formal charges were filed in the case.

Police said Friday that Edward Mitchell, 21, Lawrence, received multiple stab wounds and that his condition was upgraded to nonserious Friday in a Kansas City-area hospital.

William Mitchell, 20, Lawrence, was treated for multiple stab wounds to his torso and released Saturday from Lawrence Memorial Hospital, a nursing supervisor said. Another Lawrence man was treated for a head injury at LMH and released Friday, while two other men had refused treatment, police said.

Police also said they found two men near the scene and were attempting to locate two other subjects after reviewing a surveillance video.
