Brutal defense burns Baker

Losing skid grows to four games

? A leaky defense again plagued the Baker University football team Saturday, as the Wildcats allowed 565 yards of total offense in a 43-18 loss to MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After a 2-1 start that earned votes in the NAIA top 25 poll, Baker (2-5) has lost four straight. The biggest reason is the Wildcats’ inability to stop the opposition while surrendering an average of 428 yards of total offense per game.

Pioneers quarterback Matt Schneider threw for 383 yards and four touchdowns – all to different wide receivers. Along the way, MidAmerica Nazarene opened a 34-7 halftime lead and was never threatened.

The Baker offense had its moments against the Pioneers. Freshman quarterback Mack Brown was 18-of-28 for 185 yards and a touchdown as the Wildcats amassed 311 yards of offense. However, it wasn’t close to enough to offset the struggles on the other side of the ball.

The Wildcats will return home next Saturday to face Avila University, looking to win their first home game of the season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Liston Stadium.
