Student attacked, groped near campus

An attacker pushed a 21-year-old Kansas University student to the ground and groped her early Thursday morning as she was walking alone through a campus-area neighborhood, Lawrence Police said.

The woman was walking about 12:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Louisiana Street when the man pushed her to the ground and touched her on the outside of her clothing. She told police she screamed and he ran away on foot.

She described the suspect as a white male, between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 to 200 pounds, wearing a tan outfit and blue jeans.

The attack comes on the heels of other violent crimes reported near KU in the past week. But despite the similar time frame, the type of crime and suspect descriptions vary.

For example, the robbery and beating of an 18-year-old Lawrence High School student early Sunday happened in the same block about the same time of day, 12:15 a.m. But in that case, there were four suspects, and the student’s wallet was stolen. In the most recent attack, the woman reported that nothing was taken.
