Kansas University planned to stick with its current interpretation of a rule which a KU professor said deprived some 20 full-time faculty members of sabbatical leaves over the past two years. Citing a shortage of teachers as the major reason for the action, Deanell Tacha, vice chancellor for academic affairs, said the school would not change the rule of issuing sabbaticals.

Representatives of the two neighborhoods that border downtown Lawrence on the east and west packed a hearing to try to ensure that the comprehensive downtown plan being considered by the City Commission blended with their neighborhoods.
