Brien Plumbing, a Lawrence-based company that has installed new fixtures, pipes and other licensed materials for more than 50 years in the area, is downsizing to a service-only operation.

Bea Brien, whose late husband, Lynn, founded the business in 1953, said that the company no longer could support installation work for new homes, businesses or remodeling jobs, now that Lawrence’s construction activity has slowed during the past year.

Instead, she said, Brien Plumbing will sell its longtime home at 1900 Mass. and remain only as a service business run by her son, Mike Brien.

“Brien Plumbing is still running – just like a toilet,” she said.
