Pinckney fifth-graders win 497 Speedway

Imagine taking more than 25,000 steps in a day.

That’s what the average student did in Lynnie Kendrick’s fifth-grade class at Pinckney School.

And that made the class the winner of the Lawrence school district’s 497 Speedway, which had 40 participating classes throughout the district’s elementary schools.

After a week of counting steps using pedometers, Kendrick’s students logged an average of 25,408 steps from bell to bell for the week at school. Those steps translate to about 10 miles.

As winners of the race, the students received their own pedometers.

Other high-stepping classes include Becky Spradlin’s fifth grade at Pinckney, Kristi Carlsen-Jewell’s fourth grade at Hillcrest, Lori Kemme’s fourth grade at Pinckney, Paul Corcoran’s sixth grade at Deerfield and Linda Williams’ fourth grade at Quail Run.
