Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 11, 1906: “The county clerk has released a list of 30 jurors to serve in district court, with two citizens from each township and two from each ward in the city. : College politicians are busy at the university today. Classes are minus prominent factionists and the halls are crowded with zealous student politicians trying to convince nonpartisans to their way of thinking. The two tickets are Barb-Beta and Athletic Reform. The Australian ballot is being used. : Professor Newton N. Riddell drew more than 800 last night for his talk on ‘Mind Building and Soul Growth.’ He has spoken often about how science and religions can get along on the issue of creation. His views are not popular with some strict religionists. : The diphtheria situation here seems to be improving. There was only one new case today. Should no more new cases be reported this week, it is likely that schools will be reopened next week.”
