Kansas University said it had statistics to show that about a third of the freshmen entering school in the fall of 1981 would leave the university by the end of the sophomore year. David Ambler, vice chancellor for student affairs, said KU was trying to find ways to encourage such people to “stick it out” and complete their educations here rather than dropping out or transferring to other schools. He said he felt more than half the “dropouts” could adjust successfully to university life if they would only exercise more patience.
