Visiting Nurses picks up honors

The Kansas Home Care Assn. recently honored representatives of Douglas County Visiting Nurses and Hospice Care, Lawrence.

During the association’s annual meeting in Wichita:

¢ Doug Hitt, a registered physical therapist and assessment clinician, was named 2006 Home Care Professional Honoree of the Year, recognized for his technical knowledge, leadership skills, positive attitude and dedication to patients. “He is an outstanding example of a willing, thoughtful, productive and insightful professional,” said Michael Chapman, clinical team manger for Visiting Nurses, in his nomination letter for Hitt.

¢ Patrick Donahue, an attorney for Midland Professional Assn. and a past president of Visiting Nurses’ board of directors, was named 2006 Home Care Hero Honoree of the Year, the association’s highest honor and one reserved for a “friend” of home care. “His dedication and leadership during a difficult time ensured the survival of the agency,” said Judy Bellome, Visiting Nurses’ chief executive officer, in her nomination letter.

¢ Bellome herself was appointed to be a board member for the association, which represents Medicare-certified home health agencies in Kansas.
