Veritas football routs Springfield

? Quarterback Ben Balman and the Veritas High football team routed the inexperienced Springfield Christian squad, 52-12, Saturday.

Balman tallied 175 yards on just eight carries, including first-quarter touchdown runs of 24 and 50 yards. Balman also connected for a pair of second-quarter touchdown passes to Craig Bell before finding a spot on the bench.

“The reserves got a lot of playing time,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “It was a fun game.”

Ben Reynolds and Josh Masrud logged touchdown runs in relief. Reynolds carried seven times for 72 yards. Michael Kay also found the end zone for the Eagles.

“We played a very good game. We took care of the ball and had no turnovers,” Bennett said. “Springfield’s in a rebuilding mode. They’re a good, young team, but they just have no upperclassmen.”

The Eagles’ Isiah Dover led the defense with 71â2 tackles and an interception against the Knights.

Veritas improved to 3-3 and will travel to Wichita Word of Life on Friday.
