Friends of the Kaw has joined Wildlife and Parks to sponsor a float trip Saturday on the Kansas River from De Soto to Edwardsville.
Participants will meet at 8 a.m. at the boat ramp at Woodend Road and 9th Street in Edwardsville, then be shuttled to the De Soto boat ramp, where the float will begin.
Lunch will be provided, but participants will need to provide their own drinking water or non-alcoholic drinks.
The float trip should be completed by 3 p.m.
For information, call Erika Nighswonger at (620) 672-5911. A registration form, available at www.kdwp.state.ks.us, may be completed and faxed to Nighswonger at (620) 672-6020.
The deadline is 5 p.m. Tuesday.
A limited number of canoes and kayaks will be available to rent, or participants may bring their own equipment.
Float sponsors advise participants to bring snacks, drinking water, sunscreen, hand cleaner, dry clothing and any other appropriate gear for the day.
The Kansas River is one of three public rivers in Kansas that is open to the public for fishing and boating, but permission must be obtained to cross private ground to gain access to the river except at developed public access sites.
