Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World of Oct. 7, 1906: “Our KU football team rolled 25-0 over College of Emporia but some followers are too optimistic. Just wait until our boys face the likes of Missouri, Nebraska and Colorado before we talk about too much greatness. : Newton N. Riddell is to deliver the first of 10 lectures here about religion and science and huge crowds are expected. Riddell tends to point out that religion and science are one and that people should not seek spiritual truths in the physical realm. He has many critics among devout church-goers but he gets attention. : The registration on Oct. 1 at Kansas University reached 1,436 students and this figure does not include summer school or the junior and senior classes at the medical schools in Rosedale. Obviously KU has set all sorts of records for this fall. : Old Home Week has ended after one of the greatest community celebrations in local history. There is reason for pride.”
