Hit by a recent loss of nearly 48,000 customers, a group of 25 Kansas rural electric cooperatives were being forced to scale down plans to buy a share of the Wolf Creek nuclear power plant.
In a few weeks, Lawrence boaters were to have additional access to the Kansas River via a boat ramp and parking area along the river near Tee Pee Junction.
The late John Boyer, longtime editor of the Scott City News Chronicle, was named to the Kansas Newspaper Editors Hall of Fame at Kansas University. Boyer had died in 1979.
