Youth clinic on tap

A free shotgun and archery shooting and safety clinic for youth will be Oct. 21 at Council Grove Lake.

Sponsored by Wildlife and Parks, the Corps of Engineers, the Neosho Valley Chapter of Quail Unlimited, the Kansas Wildlife Officers Assn. and Morris County Hunter Education instructors, this event will give participants an opportunity to enhance firearm and archery shooting and safety skills.

Controlled live-fire instruction and a computer hunting simulator will teach safe, responsible and fun shooting techniques.

Participants will be provided safety and shooting instruction by certified shotgun and archery skills instructors.

All gear and supplies, including shotguns, shells, bows, arrows, targets, and eye and ear protection will be provided by KDWP’s “Pass It On” and Hunter Education Programs.

The event is for youths between ages 10 and 16. Participants are required to register by Oct. 16.

Students are not required to have completed a hunter education course, but prior completion is preferred.

The event is part of KDWP’s “Pass It On” Program, which is designed to increase the percentage of Kansans who hunt.
