Seabury tops Elwood, falls twice to Wetmore

? Seabury Academy volleyball coach Craig Friedrichsen had a simple explanation for the unique format his team encountered Saturday in what was supposed to be a garden-variety triangular meet including host Wetmore and Elwood.

“I think Wetmore just wanted to get two victories against us,” Friedrichsen said.

Sure enough, the Seahawks finished 1-2 on the day, with both losses coming to the host school.

In the triangular portion of the meet, Seabury (10-10) lost to Wetmore, 25-19, 25-12, and beat Elwood, 25-18, 25-16, earning a rematch with Wetmore.

Seabury played well enough to force a third game, but ulitmately fell, 25-17, 21-25, 25-9.

Senior Molly Thurman finished with 21 kills and three blocks for the Seahawks. Sophomore Melissa Burch added 20 kills.

Seabury won’t return to action until Oct. 10, when it will play host to a triangular.
