Gorillas need 4 OTs to outlast Emporia St.

? Jermaine Race scored a touchdown in each overtime, then added the two-point conversion in the fourth overtime to give Pittsburg State a 59-57 victory over Emporia State on Saturday.

Race had 144 yards rushing for the Gorillas (4-1, 2-1 MIAA), who trailed 14-0 early in the second quarter before tacking on two touchdowns to tie the game at halftime. The teams swapped points throughout the second half before Ryan Hulings hauled in a three-yard pass from Ben Purkeypile with 39 seconds to go to send the game to overtime tied at 31.

Pittsburg State scored in the first extra session on Race’s eight-yard TD run, but Hulings answered with a 21-yard catch from Justin Whitworth. In the second overtime, Whitworth hit Lucas Sullivan from seven yards out, only to be answered by Race’s two-yard TD run.

The teams each scored a touchdown in the third overtime but missed on 2-point conversion tries.

The Hornets (3-2, 2-1) again took the lead in the fourth overtime on Whitworth’s 24-yard pass to Sean Partridge, but their two-point conversion pass fell incomplete. Race then scored from seven yards out and plunged in for the conversion and the victory.

Washburn 56, SW Baptist 23

Topeka – Ra’Shawn Mosley rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns, and the Ichabods scored 42 unanswered points in the victory.

Brandon Walker added 105 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Ichabods (4-1, 3-0 MIAA), who rolled up 357 yards on the ground and 644 yards of total offense.

Sam Sissom’s touchdown catch midway through the first quarter was the 39th in his Washburn career, breaking the MIAA record.

Central Missouri 37, Fort Hays State 14

Hays– Toby Korrodi threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Mules (3-2, 1-2).

Fort Hays State (0-5, 0-3) had 246 yards of total offense and trailed only 23-14 after Shane Jackson scored on a 40-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

Missouri Western 38, Truman State 13

St. Joseph, Mo. – Michael Burton threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Griffons (4-1, 2-1).

Jeremiah White added 109 yards and a touchdown rushing and caught a 61-yard TD pass.

Matt Ticich completed 24-of-43 passes for 275 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions for Truman State (1-4, 1-2).

NW Missouri St. 24, Missouri Southern 7

Joplin, Mo. – Josh Mathews threw for 164 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bearcats (5-0, 3-0).

Adam Hinspeter hit Noah Harding on a 38-yard TD pass midway through the second quarter, but the Lions (3-2, 1-2) could get no closer.
