Students’ purse stolen from unlocked room

Kansas University police are reminding students to lock their residence hall rooms in light of a burglary and theft early Monday in McCollum Hall.

An 18-year-old resident of the hall told police she left the door of her eighth-floor room unlocked for her roommate and went to sleep around 1 a.m. Sometime before 7 a.m., an unknown person entered the room while the woman slept and stole her purse and its contents, valued at $71.

Police ask anyone with information that might lead to a suspect to call the KU Public Safety Office at 864-5900 or KU Crime Stoppers at 864-8888. Callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
