Assn. offering $10,000 for best ‘real’ tree story

This holiday season, choosing a real tree over an artificial one could make you $10,000 richer.

For the second year in a row, the National Christmas Tree Growers Association is offering a scholarship for the best story of why your real Christmas tree is so special.

The scholarship is available for children ages 6 and 18.

“The Christmas Tree Growers Association has really done a super job in helping people understand what real trees are all about and what that can mean to families. We’re seeing college kids come out who always have had fake trees and they want a real tree,” said Lyn Walther of Strawberry Hill Christmas Tree Farm in Lawrence.

Scholarship forms are available at the Strawberry Hill Christmas Tree Farm on Highway 40.

The deadline to enter is Dec. 31.
