Santa Claus will make his annual arrival for the holiday season tonight in downtown Lawrence.

Santa's sleigh is cleared for landing at 6 p.m. atop the roof of Weaver's department store, 901 Mass.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical crews will be on the scene to rescue the jolly old elf from the rooftop, bringing him down on a ladder truck.

Then St. Nick will be available to hear the holiday wishes from the children on hand.

In case you can't make it to Ninth and Massachusetts streets to see the annual holiday spectacle, 6News will have live coverage of Santa's arrival on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6.

Will Santa be saying things like "Oh behave." and "Do I make you randy?"

Reading the headline alone I thought Austin Powers was coming.

Uh huh and he is bringing Fembots instead of elves. He also travels in a Giant Big Boy instead of a sleigh ( he borrowed it from his brother Dr. Evil)

they announce the arrival but forget to reveal the time so it really is a mystery.

Did someone check to make sure Santa's sleigh is "politically" correct so he doesn't get a letter from the city commission?...Hate to see the commission alienate Santa Claus...

Oooooo...Channel 6 coverage. Man I think I'm gonna wet my pants.

How is it that Santa--The same Santa who circumnavigates the globe, distributing toys to ALL the children of the world in a single night--get stuck on top of Weavers every year? Shouldn't they be forced to install a blinking light so that our tax dollars aren't wasted each and every time this happens. Or give jolly St. Nick a field sobriety test? Maybe it isn't the store's fault. Maybe he stops off at one of the many fine purveyors of potables here in town and can't get his sleigh back up in the air without ending up on top of the store. Anyways I think this is scandalous. Something must be done. Harumph. Harumph.

maybe the three stooges on the city commish will write a letter about misguided Santa air traffic?

yeah, seems like some year somebody would get a clue and put a light on Weaver's. BTW, why is it Weaver's each year...why not Wheatfields? or Papa Keno's? or maybe Free State? best of all, have the jolly ol' elf land on city hall?

Thanks for that CW!

that was good. imagine what would happen if Santa arrived, say, atop the Fire station #1 downtown, coming to the firefighters?

still like the idea of Santa coming to land on City Hall.
