Helicopter crashes in North Sea; 17 rescued

? A search and rescue helicopter crashed Tuesday night into the North Sea near the Dutch port of Den Helder, and all 17 people aboard were rescued, the Coast Guard said.

The twin-engine Super Puma went down shortly before midnight about 55 miles north of Amsterdam after reporting engine trouble, said Dutch Coast Guard spokesman Frank de Ridder.

Rescuers in boats and a navy helicopter working in darkness managed to pull everyone out of the wreckage and the water, officials said.

The passengers and crew were transferred to shore in good condition except for one survivor, who was flown to a nearby navy base suffering mild hypothermia, said Peter van Oorschot, another spokesman.

The helicopter, with a crew of four, was evacuating 13 staff members from a North Sea oil platform that had suffered a power failure when the crash occurred, De Ridder said.
