Man sentenced to 10 years in wife’s murder

? A man convicted in the June 2004 killing of his wife at their rural farm home near Dexter has been sentenced to 10 years and three months in prison.

Mark Lewis was found guilty of second-degree murder. His wife, Ann Lewis, was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

Cowley County District Judge Nick St. Peter said he believed Ann Lewis was the victim of domestic violence, not suicide, which is what her husband claimed.

“The great weight of evidence supports the fact that Mr. Lewis did kill Ann,” the judge said.

Mark Lewis also shot himself in attempt to cover up the crime. He underwent several months of rehabilitation after the shooting.

He will be under post-release supervision after he serves his sentence.

Ann Lewis’ family said she told them she was physically abused. However, Mark and Ann Lewis’ daughter said she never saw violence between her parents and that her mother’s alcoholism and depression led to the problems in the home.
