K-State needs overtime to turn back Wyoming

? Shana Wheeler scored 16 points and had a career-high six blocks to lead Kansas State to a 68-62 overtime win over Wyoming on Friday night.

Wyoming took a 55-52 lead with 1.5 seconds left in the game on Justyna Podziemska’s three-pointer. But Kansas State’s Claire Coggins hit a half-court shot at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.

Kansas State (3-0) took control in overtime after a 7-0 run gave the Wildcats a 64-58 lead with 11â2 minutes remaining.

In the first half, Kansas State went on a 10-0 run to take a 21-11 lead. Wyoming cut Kansas State’s lead to 30-27 before the half, outscoring the Wildcats 7-2 in the final two minutes.

Marlies Gipson finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for Kansas State. Coggins added 13 and Kimberly Dietz scored 11.

Hanna Zavecz led all scorers with 19 points for Wyoming (2-1). Podziemska finished with 14 points, Jodi Bolerjack added 12 and Dominique Sisk finished with 11.

The victory was the third straight for Kansas State over Wyoming, which has not won a game in Manhattan.

No. 3 Oklahoma 92, Eastern Kentucky 79

Honolulu – Courtney Paris scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for her 30th straight double-double to lead Oklahoma. The sophomore, a preseason All-American, helped Oklahoma pull away from the Colonels in the second half in the semifinals of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic.

Ashley Paris, Courtney’s sister, had 14 points and eight rebounds as Britney Brown and Amanda Thompson both scored 10 for Oklahoma (2-0).

Eastern Kentucky (1-1) took an early nine-point lead in first five minutes, but the Sooners used a 14-1 run to erase the deficit. Crystal Jones kept Eastern Kentucky in the game with 12 first-half points.

With the score tied at 33, the Sooners used a 16-4 run to end the first half. Oklahoma used its dominating inside game to put the game out of reach in the second half.

No. 23 New Mexico 63, No. 25 Texas 60

Albuquerque, N.M. – Julie Briody scored 16 of her 18 points in the first half, and her two free throws with 57 seconds left helped No. 23 New Mexico hold off No. 25 Texas for a 63-60 victory Friday night.

Dionne Marsh scored 20 points for New Mexico (2-2), which led by 18 points (37-19) with just over a minute left in the first half.

Texas (3-1) had a chance to force overtime, but Erika Arriaran’s three-pointer with two seconds left barely hit the rim.

Missouri 74, Arkansas State 53

Columbia, Mo. – Carlynn Savant had 22 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks to lead Missouri. Tiffany Brooks also scored 22 points and added six steals for Missouri (3-0). EeTisha Riddle scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds for Missouri, which turned 21 Arkansas State turnovers into 20 points.

After an 11-0 run in the first half, Missouri led throughout the game, and Arkansas State (1-2) never came closer than nine points.

Nebraska 76, Cal State-Fullerton 62

Lincoln, Neb. – Kelsey Griffin grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 13 points for Nebraska. Cory Montgomery scored 15 points to lead the Cornhuskers. Nebraska improved to 3-1 with the victory, while Cal State Fullerton slipped to 1-2.
