Haskell women victorious

Melissa Haag scored 22 points, leading the Haskell Indian Nations University women’s basketball team to a 82-76 victory against Mid-America Christian University on Friday at Coffin Complex.

Guards Kortney Smith (17 points) and Amber Tecumseh (15) rounded out the Fightin’ Indians three-pronged attack, which was just slightly better than Mid-America’s.

Sheila Nave scored 25 points, Courtney Sorrels 24 and Laressa McDonals 18, accounting for all but nine of the Tulsa, Okla., team’s points.

“It really seemed like three-on-three out there sometimes,” Haskell coach Phil Homeratha said. “Somehow we got them into a full-court game, and we just shot better. My guards finally started playing again.”

Haskell evened its record at 3-3 and will play host to Bethel, a team the Fightin’ Indians bested by one point in their last meeting, on Tuesday.
