Choirs plan combined ‘Messiah’ performance

A local church choir and a Kansas University choir will join together later this month for a sing-along version of Handel’s “Messiah.”

The public is invited to come and sing with the Trinity Consort, a group associated with Trinity Episcopal Church, and KU’s Oread Singers, for the event, which will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29. It will be at the church, 1011 Vt.

A freewill donation will be taken to cover the cost of instrumentalists and featured solo artists.

First Presbyterian gets new pastor

Kent Winters-Hazelton, new pastor at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, will deliver his first sermon at the church Sunday.

Winters-Hazelton comes to Lawrence from the First Presbyterian Church in East Hampton, N.Y., where he served as interim pastor.
