USC received a letter of intent Wednesday from guard O.J. Mayo, one of the most-coveted high school players in the nation.

Mayo was scheduled to make an official campus visit this weekend, but he cut short the drama by calling coach Tim Floyd on Wednesday morning to tell him he would sign. Mayo told USA Today in a story on its Web site that Floyd’s NBA experience swayed him. He also was considering Kansas State.
