Lawrence’s Dobbins second at triathalon

Local optometrist Kent Dobbins finished second in his age group in the World Triathalon Corporation Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 Saturday in Clearwater, Fla.

“I did about as well as I could,” Dobbins said. “It was a really big event. It was a lot of fun.”

The half-triathalon consisted of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run. Dobbins, who competed in the 60 to 64 age group, completed the WTC event in five hours and two minutes.

Two thousand people from more than 47 countries participated. With colder temperatures on the horizon, the Florida event served as a the final triathalon for the year.

“It kind of wraps up the season,” Dobbins said.
