No-gun signs released

? Officials today released regulations and signs for Kansas businesses and organizations that want to prohibit concealed handguns from their locations.

To prohibit guns, a sign must be posted in clear view that has to be at least 8 inches by 8 inches, with a white background, a black handgun graphic and red circle and slash across the handgun.

The sign can be downloaded at www.ksag.org/Concealed_Weapon/Concealed_Carry_Update.htm.

Under the new concealed carry law, 3,250 Kansans have applied for concealed carry licenses. Of those, 2,604 have been approved. The state will issue the first licenses starting in January.

The law will allow Kansas residents 21 or older with no criminal background or history of mental illness or drug abuse to obtain a four-year license after completing an eight-hour training course.

Businesses and property owners wanting to prohibit concealed weapons must post the new signs.

There also are numerous places where people would not be allowed to carry concealed weapons, such as school buildings, law and government buildings, drinking establishments, colleges, day care centers and religious buildings.
