Boy Scout Pack 3071, chartered to Prairie Park School, conducted its first-ever “Hogwarts Night” on Oct. 20 at First Baptist Church.
The night started with the monthly pack meeting, including dinner which was provided with donations from Pizza Shuttle and Pizza Hut. Evan Boxberger and Luke Welton from Pet World gave a presentation that included lizards and a ball python.
After the meeting, an overnight lock-in with the Harry Potter-themed “Hogwarts Night” began. Bob Lemmons served as Professor Dumbledore. Using the sorting hat, he placed the boys in one of three houses; Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw.
Each house was led by an older Scout. Brett Sipes led the Gryffindor house, Tyler Denny led the Hufflepuffs, and Andrew Denny, the Ravenclaws. Monica Lemmons was Professor MacGonagall, who taught Transfigurations. Steve Steichen taught Charms and Weather. Robert Kinder and Jeff Morris ran the Marauder’s Map. Carrie Dominguez playing Madame Trelawney held a class on divinations. Bob Buchanan played the character of Hagrid, Caretaker of Magical Creatures. “Dementor” Savannah Mireles assisted where she was needed.
In each of the classes, the boys used different scouting skills to learn a “magical” lesson. Using clues on the Marauder’s Map, the boys used compasses and orienting skills to learn the true identity of the mysterious Sirius Black, played by Jeff Morris.
Taylor Covert, Amanda Morris and Jeanne Morris worked the “Leaky Cauldron” snack shop where boys could purchase treats such as butterbeer, dragonsnot, peanut butter eyeballs, and more.
The night ended with Quidditch kickball and a movie. In the morning doughnuts and juice were served, and parents picked up their scouts at 9 a.m. Scouts attending included Kevin Reese, Johnathon Kinder, Blair Whaley, Matthew Whaley, Andy Dominguez, Matt Dominguez, Devin Duncan, Keagan Engbrock, Nick Steicken, Ian Henricks, Luke Hinkle, Kyle Gregg, Kylen Denny, Dusty Morris, Ben LaRocque, Julian Van Dyke, Joey Newhouse, Jayden Riedel, Austin Barnes, Joseph Cline and Emilio Mireles.
The 55th Annual Bromelsick Christmas Party will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds’ Community Building.
