4H and FCE News

The Clinton Eagles 4-H Club met Oct. 29 at the Heine home. The meeting featured the Club Achievement Celebration, a potluck and hayrack ride.

The meeting was called to order by Kahlyn Heine, president. Roll call was answered by “What is your favorite Halloween candy?” Song leaders Jared Fangman and Adam Spurling led the singing of “Bazooka Bubblegum.”

Recreation leaders Maria Penrod and Piper Hubbell announced that the recreation activity would be a hayrack ride. Community leader Lanaea Heine announced that enrollment forms needed to be turned in by Nov. 20. The club received Cici’s Pizza coupons for each member because the club won Creative Fitting and Showing at the fair.

The club is decorating an entry for the Festival of Trees with the theme of “4-H is Sweet,” a candy theme. The committee will meet from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday to make decorations.

Kiera Snodgrass, Mandi Snodgrass and Shawn Spurling joined the club.

New officers who were initiated at the meeting include Kahlyn Heine, president; Kirstyn Heine, vice president; Delaney Dieker, secretary; Kahlyn Heine and Dalton Welsh, county council representatives; Simon Fangman, parliamentarian; Emory Hubbell, historian; Morgan Manger, reporter; Jared Fangman and Adam Spurling, song leaders; and Maria Penrod and Piper Hubbell, recreation leaders.

The next meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at Clinton Church, and members will go caroling.

The Kanwaka Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Muriel Maness. Mary Ann Strong will give the lesson “Every Step Counts.”

The Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club celebrated the new 4-H year with a project fair displaying several of the projects available through 4-H including those working with horses, foods, leadership and rocketry.

The club also welcomed four new members. All members need to remember to bring their enrollment cards by the November meeting. A Thanksgiving feast is planned for 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, Building 1, right before the monthly meeting at 7 p.m.

The Vinland Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vinland Methodist Church. Margie Schutz will be hostess.

Lola Ford will give the lesson on “Every Step Counts,” which concerns learning about exercise to improve physical strength, endurance and flexibility.

Pam Van Horn, a former member of the Full-O-Pep 4-H Club in Franklin County, has been named 4-H specialist for learning environments at Kansas State University’s Research and Extension state 4-H office in Manhattan.

She will be leading an effort to add value to Kansas 4-H programs, clubs, after-school programs, school enrichment opportunities and camps.

The youth development organization, which celebrated its centennial year of service to Kansas youths last year, works with more than 79,000 youngsters.

Van Horn, a graduate of Wellsville High School who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from K-State, has more than 23 years of experience as a 4-H youth development agent in Kansas. She lives in Manhattan.
