Library media specialist receives Legacy Award

Free State High School library media specialist Diane Toplikar was honored Thursday with a Legacy Award. The award, designed to honor certified staff members who make a significant impact on the lives of their students, is presented by the Lawrence Education Assn. and KU Credit Union.

LEA President Adela Solis said Toplikar was nominated for her gentle presence, expertise and positive attitude. She’s described as a tremendous asset to the school.

In addition to advising 200 students through her co-sponsorship of the National Honor Society, Toplikar is involved with the district’s Technology Committee, the North Central Committee for School Improvement and the Lawrence Education Assn.

Toplikar has worked at Free State High School for 10 years.
