City modifies T wave-down policy

Commissioners unanimously agreed to end the wave-down policy currently used by the Lawrence Transit System.

Once the T implements the new policy, which probably won’t be until 2007, bus riders will have to be at a designated bus stop to board the T. Currently, riders can wave a bus down at any point along its route.

City transit leaders pushed for the change to improve the system’s efficiency.

The transit system will make an exception for people with disabilities. They will be able to apply to receive a placard to use to wave down a bus at any point along the route.
