Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 4, 1906: “The local Ministers’ Alliance has decided to bring a series of lecturers here the coming year and some of the top names in the field of religion are being contacted. : Many are saying that the main reason for the Kansas football defeat, 34-2, at St. Louis University, was the high number of KU injuries and the fact the Missourians used a number of professional players. : New legislation is due to make it possible for many more young people to attend Kansas University. Counties will have levies that will enable them to support youngsters in school and each qualified high school will also benefit because there will be no more tuition charges for high school. : University testing shows that only one local dairy supplier failed to meet the requirements as set up by Prof. E.H.S. Bailey. : New York’s Tammany Hall is the busiest political spot in the country today. It is spending more than $70,000 to get out the voters and district leaders have been arriving with bags of money for incentive to favor voters for the Tammany ticket.”
