Voters’ duty

To the editor:

Where is the outrage? Congress has been bought by corporate America and bribery is accepted as the normal way of doing business in Washington, D.C. Who is to blame?

If you care enough, go and look in the mirror if you didn’t vote. That is who is to blame if you have distanced yourself from politics because of the smell.

More and more Americans are doing this and rationalizing it by saying that they are all corrupt so what does it matter who I vote for? The answer is that when citizens hold their noses and distance themselves from the political process, this is what you get: despicable opportunists willing to put up a sign that says “Member of Congress for sale to the highest bidder.”

The Greeks who invented democracy felt that citizenship should only be extended to those who discharged their responsibility and voted.

I believe that was sound reasoning.
