State creates v-cards to encourage voting

Kansans have a new way to encourage one another to get out and vote in Tuesday’s general election: online v-cards.

The electronic cards are customized greetings with entertaining messages about voting. They can be sent by e-mail to friends and family members. The effort is part of the state’s “Vote! Kansas” campaign.

The V-cards can be found online at www.voteks.org. They are similar to e-cards that friends and family members send by e-mail on special occasions such as holidays and birthdays.

In addition to sending electronic cards, visitors to the Web site, set up by the Kansas Secretary of State’s office, will find information about voting. They also can watch voting machine demonstrations and see television advertisements for the “Vote! Kansas” campaign. The advertisements began running on television and radio Monday.
