Public health officials said they were continuing on the alert for cases of intestinal parasites in children at local day care centers. But they felt the peak of the outbreak, 67 cases in all between mid-March and mid-May, appeared to have passed.

Although May 11 frost may have caused more wheat damage than farm officials originally feared, Earl Van Meter, county Extension director, was cautioning against “panic,” which might lead to premature harvests.

Gene Budig, due to take over as Kansas University chancellor on Aug. 1, assured the faculty at the school that he had their interests in mind and planned to use them to help convey the university’s needs to the public. He also said he would work for higher pay for faculty and staff members. Budig was in Lawrence for a visit. He was wrapping up his duties at West Virginia University.
