County commission to discuss exemptions

A resolution that would extend the moratorium on issuing building permits for houses and mobile homes on rural lots using the five-acre exemption rule will be considered tonight by Douglas County commissioners.

Commissioners first issued the temporary prohibition a year ago while changes to subdivision regulations were being reviewed. The prohibition was extended in November.

The five-acre exemption rule generally allows people to build a home on at least five acres of property in rural parts of the county without going through the rezoning or platting process.

Commissioners will meet at 6:35 p.m. in the second-floor courtroom in the county courthouse, 1100 Mass.
