Lawrence was dry and pleasant this morning. But changes are coming, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We are expecting redeveloping thunderstorms,” Schack said. And they could bring large hail, gusty winds and heavy downpours, she said.

Lawrence’s Municipal Airport had 1.82 inches of rain on Monday, but no measurable rain overnight. At 7:15 a.m., the airport’s temperature was 67 degrees, the humidity was 76 percent and winds were out of the east at 9 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 60 degrees. The record low was 44 degrees, set in 1941.

Schack said today’s high will climb to 81 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies. Winds will be 5 to 12 mph. The average high temperature for this date is 81 degrees. The record high was 102 degrees, set in 1934.

Schack said the chances for rain increase through the afternoon and into the evening. The National Weather Service says there’s a 50 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms today and a 50 percent chance tonight.

“By tomorrow, thunderstorms won’t be as widespread,” Schack said. There’s a chance for storms in the morning, then an isolated chance on Wednesday afternoon, she said.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 64 degrees, climbing to a high of 64 degrees, with winds from the west at 5 to 10 mph, she said.

Thursday’s morning low will be 60 degrees, climbing to 82 degrees by Thursday afternoon and partly cloudy skies, Schack said.
