Traffic magic

May 28, 2006

To the editor:

The plan to extend 31st Street is a question some people will like, some hate! But the idea of putting roundabouts at every intersection is idiotic! Our planning commissioner must think he is Tinkerbell; whenever he sprinkles fairy dust with his magic wand, a roundabout appears.

Yes to 31st Street. Maybe for 32nd Street. But no roundabouts.

The idea is to allow fast crossing of the town, not create traffic jams.

As to the likes or hates folks have for our wetlands, let's be truthful. If one of our local developers or contractors wanted to build homes or businesses in the wetlands, the bulldozers would be unloaded the next day.

Sorry Mr. Hercha but saving the Wakarusa Wetlands is the ultimate objective under any circumstances.

I fully agree with Otto J. Hercha, about the Traffic Magic. We don't need Roundabouts, I thought that the South Lawrence Traffic Way was a way to get traffic off of Iowa and 23rd Street. They all ready have a Traffic Light out there, which I'm against. A traffic-way is too let vehicles move along and not stop. Instead of Traffic Lights, should build an overpass or interchange. Maybe the city likes having large vehicles coming though the city, that way, they might stop and fuel up, or something, Think Not. Wait until an accident happens and there's Hazardous Materials that gets spilled and has to be cleaned up. Truckers do not like traffic any better than anybody else. Lets get off of you-know-what, and get something done with a Traffic way, we have waited too long now. Our Great Grandchildren Might see it done, it's been over 20 years in the making now.

that's weird....Iwas debating with LeAnn last night about this.....When people say it should be south of the wak because of growth....Does that not mean there would be development around the wetlands, exscuse me, devolopment THROUGH the wetland? Do you really think they would allow the wetlands to remain If it was driving down property values? It's sad that an established eco system is going to get messed up....But that is exactly what is going to happen, wherever they put the slt.
